E PLURIBUS UNUM - From many one held together, a presentation of posts on the scales of art; scene, as the leafed olive branch, a torch-aflame, and oak leaves on branch; a silver lining; respectively to God, for mankind to share in His liberty, peace, and victory; the silver, the linear lining, glory be to God, to be in God's mercy, and God's grace, in prayer and meditation; to make His way clear for us to follow and determin a lead in the places we do not yet see.

Interesting Conversations With Jesus
“What Did Jesus Believe About Hell?”
Luke 13:22-30

A certain lady who died stood at the Gates of Heaven. She could look and see a beautiful banquet table set, with all her family members who had died, before sitting and enjoying the feast. They all saw her and started waving and motioning her to come in. A saint appeared and said, “Hello. We’ve been waiting for you.” And she said, “This is such a wonderful place, how do I get in?” The gatekeeper smiled and said, “All you have to do is correctly spell one word.” “What is it?” she anxiously asked. “Spell love,” he said. The woman smiled and spelled “l.o.v.e.” and she was welcomed into heaven. About a year later, the same woman was on gate duty when her husband arrived unexpectedly. She said, “I am surprised to see you! How have you been doing?” He said, “Actually, I’ve been doing really well since you died. Do you remember that pretty nurse that took care of you? We fell in love and married a few weeks after you died. Then I won the lottery so we sold our little house and moved into a huge mansion. My new wife and I have been very happy and have been traveling all over the world. In fact we were just on a skiing trip to the Swiss Alps when I was caught in an avalanche, and that’s why I’m here. By the way, how do I get in?” His ex-wife said, “All you have to do is spell one word correctly and you can enter heaven.” He said, “Ok, what’s the word?” She smiled wryly and said, “Czechoslovakia.”

Introduction
Many People Can’t Believe That There Is ACTUALLY A HELL.
In a recent survey, it was determined that 35% of Baptists; 54% of Presbyterians, 58% of Methodists, and 60% of Episcopalians DO NOT believe in a literal place called HELL! 70% of the 8 leading seminaries in the United States DO NOT BELIEVE in either Heaven or Hell.
Cable television’s Ted Turner once said: Referring to Christ’s death on the cross, Turner said, “I don’t want anybody to die for me. I’ve had a few drinks and a few girlfriends, and if that’s gonna put me in hell, then so be it.”
Aristotle (322 B.C.) “Death is the most feared of all things, for it appears to be the end of everything.”
Philosopher Epicurius (270 B.C.) “Death, the most dreaded of evil, is therefore of no concern to us, for while we exist, death is not present, and when death is present, we no longer exist.”
A letter was sent to the Billy Graham Association - “After hearing Dr. Billy Graham on the air, viewing him on television and reading reports and letters concerning him and his mission, I am heartily sick of the type of religion that insists my soul (and everyone else’s) needs saving – whatever that means. I have never felt that I was lost. Nor do I feel that I daily wallow in the mire of sin, although repetitive preaching insists that I do. Give me a practical religion that teaches gentleness and tolerance, that acknowledges no barriers of color or creed, that remembers the aged and teaches children of goodness and not sin. If in order to save my soul I must accept such a philosophy as I have recently heard preached, I prefer to remain forever damned.”

Many People Can’t Believe That JESUS BELIEVED IN A HELL.
After all, Jesus was:
a. gracious
b. loving
c. patient
d. forebearing
They would say that hell would be “inconsistent” with His true nature.
People Had Better BELIEVE IN A HELL.
Jesus Christ spoke more than anyone else in all of Scripture about the reality of hell.
a. Jesus spoke less on heaven
b. than He spoke on hell.
Verses:
a. Matthew 5:22 – “But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca, ' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.”
b. Matthew 5:29-30 – “If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.”
c. Matthew 10:28 – “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
d. Matthew 18:9 – “And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.”
e. Luke 12:5 – “But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.”
f. John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Godly People Have ALWAYS BELIEVED IN HELL.
C.S. Lewis writing on hell said, “There is no doctrine that I would more willingly remove from Christianity than this, if it lay in my power. But it has the full support of Scripture, and specially of our Lord’s own words; it has always been held by Christendom, and has the support of reason.”
Evangelist Billy Sunday – “Hell is the highest reward that the devil can offer you for being a steward of his.”
A.W. Tozer – “The vague and tenuous hope that God is too kind to punish the ungodly has become a deadly opiate for the consciences of millions.”
Martin Luther – “What hell is, we know not; only this we know, that there is such a sacred certain place.”
Let us all see further evidence of hell from Jesus Himself.

I. The QUESTION Of Salvation.
Jesus’ MINISTRY OF EVANGELISM.
Vs. 22-23 - Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, "Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?"
Jesus talked to all people.
a. Jesus was committed to sharing His gospel to every person He could share with.
b. and although He was a Jew, He shared the gospel as much with non-Jews as He did Jews.
Jesus talked to the Jews.
a. you must realize that the Jews thought that they were the only people of God. After all, God had chosen them.
b. but because of this view, the Jews did not believe that ANYONE ELSE would be saved.
Jesus’ MESSAGE OF EXCLUSION.
Vs. 22-23 - Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, "Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?"
Jesus was asked a sarcastic question.
a. so, with this in mind, a Jew asked Jesus this question, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”
b. the one asking the question is attempting to make Jesus say the obvious – that the Jews (the few) would be the only ones to be saved
Jesus responds with a surprising answer.
a. Jesus doesn’t even “qualify” the question regarding the Jews.
1. to Jesus, it was not about being a Jew or a non-Jew
2. it was all about who had the proper relationship with Him
b. so, instead of referring to the Jews at all, Jesus spoke generally to ALL MEN “to make every effort to enter through the narrow door.”
II. The QUEST For Salvation.
Jesus CONFRONTS Us With A Narrow Door.
Vs. 24 - "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.”
People’s views of getting to heaven.
a. our nation was founded for “many peoples”
1. Epluribus Unum – “From the many one”
2. no one religion – our forefathers did not want “establishmentarianism” – or the belief that our church or our belief system – the church of England or the Catholic Church – was the only belief
3. religious toleration – our Constitution states that all religions have a right to pursue their beliefs – that all men are created equal
4. pluralism – The Statute of Liberty welcomes people of all types and religions – “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me.”
b. our world has different religions:
1. Islam
2. Hindu
3. Jews
4. Christians
5. Bahai
c. Theologian Dr. R.C. Sproul addresses the “Law of Contradiction”
1. CAN ALL RELIGIONS BE THE WAY TO GOD – BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL SAYING DIFFERENT THINGS!
2. the various views of world religions
a. Islam says that while Jesus is a prophet, Mohammed is the only true prophet
b. the Hindus say that the only way to reach Nirvana is through reincarnation
c. the Jews say that the Messiah has not yet come
d. Christians say that Jesus alone is the Messiah
e. the Bahai faith says that all of these roads can lead to God
3. CAN ALL OF THESE RELIGIONS BE TRUE?
a. can truth exist with two opposite views?
b. or does there need to be one answer only?
4. as one has said, “wise is the road and wide is the opinions.”
Jesus’ view of the way to get to Heaven.
a. narrow defined
1. the Greek word is stenos – from where we get the word stenographer
2. to constrict, to restrict, to abbreviate
b. narrow applied
1. WITHOUT A DOUBT, Jesus is using a word that HAS LIMITS TO IT.
2. the word narrow means EXACTLY THAT – the way IS NARROW – JESUS HIMSELF IS SAYING THIS!
c. narrow explained
1. the fall
a. God created Adam and Eve to be perfect.
b. God called them to obedience.
c. There was a warning –
Genesis 2:16-17 - And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
d. Because of their disobedience, they were sentenced to death.
2. the fix
a. HOWEVER, AFTER THEIR FALL INTO SIN, God presented to them the solution –
Genesis 3:15 – “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."
b. God prophecies the coming of the Messiah who will come to die on a cross FOR THEIR SINS.
3. the facts
a. Jesus is ABUNDANTLY CLEAR that this is a narrow door and that HE IS THAT DOOR.
(NASV) John 10:1 – “Truly, truly, I say to you, be who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber.”
John 10:7 – “I am the door of the sheep.”
b. other verses that show how “narrow” the way is – spoken by Jesus Himself:
1. John 8:24 – “I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins."
2. John 14:6 - Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
c. Kent Hughes – “The passage to Heaven is not through the great portal of a palace, but a narrow, low door through which one must humbly squeeze.”
Jesus COMPELS Us To Go Through The Narrow Door.
Vs. 24 - "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.”
The strength needed to go through the narrow door.
a. the Greek word used for make every effort is agonizomai – from where we get the word agonize
b. Jesus is saying here that it is a struggle, a fight, as if we were entering into a contest or a wrestling match
c. Jesus says to do everything that you can to go through this narrow door
The struggle experienced is going through the narrow door.
a. Jesus is not saying that one can “earn” his way or “work” his way on his own merit
b. the struggle or fight that Jesus is talking about is your own struggle to submit to Him
1. Jesus is talking about the struggle with your own flesh –
a. a flesh that wants to be in charge of your own life
b. a flesh that does not want to submit to another
c. a flesh that wants to be your own god
2. my own story
a. God began a work in my life in the 9th grade
b. I struggled and fought against God for 4 years!
c. until I “surrendered” to His call in my life
3. NO one comes to Jesus willingly
a. we all have struggles
b. that’s why Jesus calls it being “born again”
1. being born physically is a struggle – contractions, the small birth canal, and then the world!
2. being “spiritually” born again is the same struggle – contractions, a small narrow door and then the spiritual world
The spirituality resulting in going through the narrow door.
a. the Greek word for enter is a most fascinating word
1. it literally means to: come into existence; to begin to live; to come into life
2. in other words, when someone “enters” through the narrow door, his or her spiritual life actually begins on the “other side of the door”
3. no one can reveal to you what is on the other side but you
a. try to tell someone what it “feels like” to get married
b. try to tell someone what it “feel like” to have a baby
b. after the striving, the agonizing, the struggle, you will find true spiritual life on the other side of the narrow door
III. The QUARRELING About Salvation.
The CLOSING Of The Door.
Vs. 25 - Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, 'Sir, open the door for us.' "But he will answer, 'I don't know you or where you come from.'
By using the illustration of a door, Jesus is saying that the nature of a door is that they open and they close.
Presently, the door is currently open, but IT WILL NOT ALWAYS BE OPEN!
Most people could not accept the fact that Jesus is saying that one day the DOOR WILL BE CLOSED!
The CONFUSION At The Closing Of The Door.
Vs. 26-27 - "Then you will say, 'We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.' "But he will reply, 'I don't know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!'
What they considered.
a. these people “thought” that they had “gone through” the narrow door
b. because, if Jesus is that door, they:
1. believed in Him
2. sang songs about Him
3. read about Him
c. THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED THAT THE DOOR HAS BEEN CLOSED TO THEM.
What Jesus corrected.
Vs. 27 - "But he will reply, 'I don't know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!'
a. Jesus clarifies:
1. Jesus here explains what it means to go through the narrow door
2. He says, “Depart from me – “I never knew you.”
a. the word know means:
1. to see, perceive
2. to understand
3. to experience, visit
4. to pay attention to
b. in other words, to walk through the narrow door means:
1. to come personally in contact with
2. to come into a relationship with Jesus
3. in walking through that door, I HAVE MET JESUS!
b. Jesus condemns:
1. and no amount of begging and pleading will change His mind
2. because they do not know Jesus personally, Jesus closes the door
IV. The QUAKING About Salvation.
The VISION Of Those Entering.
Vs. 29-30 - “People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God. Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last."
They will see the Jewish prophets.
a. Jesus describes the scene at the last judgment that the great Jews of the faith, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, will be seen entering heaven
b. what a glorious scene – a scene that every Jew would expect to see
They will see Gentile believers.
a. but . . . these unbelieving Jews will see something that they will NOT believe with their eyes
b. they will see non-Jews; Gentiles walking into heaven from “the east and the west and the north and the south”
1. in other words, the Jews were located generally in one area of the world, Israel
2. but Jesus says that people FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD will be walking into heaven – BECAUSE THEY, UNLIKE YOU, HAVE WALKED THROUGH THE NARROW DOOR!
The VEXATION Of Those Exiting.
Vs. 28 - "There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out.”
These who have not walked through the narrow door WILL BE SENT TO HELL.
a. THIS IS THE DIRECT TEACHING OF JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF!
b. THESE ARE THE VERY WORDS OF JESUS!
Those who have not walked through the narrow door will suffer FOREVER.
a. weeping:
1. because there is no hope EVER, there will be constant, inconsolable, unending weeping
2. and this is not a few tears, but uncontrollable sobbing
3. William Hendricksen said: “The weeping is that of never ending wretchedness, and utter, everlasting hopelessness.”
4. Pastor Curtis Kittrell said: “Hell destroys all hope of togetherness. There will not be any looking forward to a friend’s visit or a child’s returning home. There will be no time for being alone with one’s companion. Neither will there be any more tears of joy, hugs and kisses, hearts leaping with excitement. Hell separates, not for a day, not for a short time, but forever. Lovers will be separated. Brothers and sisters will be parted. Dad will never again look upon his son. Friends will never again know the joy of good times.
Hell will never know the greenness of spring, the brightness of summer sun, the colors of autumn, the whiteness of newly fallen snow. Hell will never know the smile on a friendly face or the dancing eyes of hopeful expectancy. Hell will never know joy.”
b. gnashing of teeth
1. there will be such a sense of hopelessness that the only response will be deep, deep anger
2. one has said: “Hell is disintegration –the eternal loss of being a real person. In hell the mathematician who lived for his science can’t add two and two. The concert pianist who worshipped himself through his art can’t play a simple scale. The man who lived for sex goes on in eternal lust, with no body to exploit. The woman who made a god out of fashion has a thousand dresses but no mirror! Hell is eternal desire – eternally unfulfilled.”
3. There is no solution, there is no hope, there is no answer, and this will be your state FOREVER!
Conclusion:
Your probably have not heard many sermons on hell in the churches that you have attended:
Although I have mentioned it in sermons throughout the years, this is only the second time that I have even preached on hell.
It is not a “popular” topic, one that will make people mad instead of encouraged BUT HELL EXISTS AND JESUS WANTS YOU TO KNOW IT!
I have often said that these are the scariest words in the Bible, “Depart from me you evil doers, I never knew you.”
I don’t want ANYONE IN THIS ROOM TO EVER HEAR THOSE WORDS.
Have you personally entered through the narrow door?
1. Have you come to Jesus?
2. Have you surrendered your heart to Him?
3. Have you asked to know Him personally.
4. IF NOT . . . YOU WILL GO TO HELL – BECAUSE HE IS THE DOOR TO HEAVEN – THE ONLY DOOR.

Mark Twain
once said – “I’ll take heaven for the climate and hell for the society.”
Samuel Clemens as Mark Twain wrote this to Albert Paine in April 1910. Paine was worried about years of recurring bouts with severe chest pains. Both went to Bermuda for some “R and R.” When Paine arrived in Bermuda, Clemens presented him with this advice for appropriate behavior in the after life:
Upon arrival in heaven do not speak to St. Peter until spoken to. It is not your place to begin.
Wait patiently till it comes your turn to apply for a ticket. Do not look bored, and don’t scratch your shin with your other foot.
Don’t tell him you used to have an uncle named after him, “maybe you have met him.” He is tired of that.
Do not try to show off. St. Peter dislikes it. The simpler you are dressed, the better it will please him. He cannot abide showy costumes. Above all things, avoid over-dressing. A pair of spurs and a fig-leaf is a plenty.
Leave your dog outside. Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and the dog would go in.The pair left Bermuda on April 12, arrived in New York on the 14th, and traveled directly to Redding, Connecticut, where Clemens died exactly a week later.

2007 House Bill 1750 (Adopting the interstate agreement for the election of the president of the United States by national popular vote.)
[Comments on this legislation] [Text and Analysis] [Add to Watch List] [Previous] [Next]
Introduced by Rep. Joe McDermott on January 26, 2007, to create an interstate agreement regarding the election of the U.S. President. Currently, Presidents are elected by the Electoral College made up of electors from each state. Candidates need 270 of the 538 electoral votes to win the presidency. SB 5628 would pledge Washington’s 11 electoral votes to the winner of the nation-wide popular vote. However, this measure would only take effect if enough states possessing a majority of electoral votes adopt the same measure. The interstate agreement would guarantee the winner of the popular vote to be the next president effectively bypassing the Electoral College. See companion SB 5628.
Referred to the House State Government and Tribal Affairs Committee on January 26, 2007.
Referred to the House Rules Committee on January 24, 2008.

Finding A Blueprint (Blue Lables-)

The Christian Court- (by Bill Fields)
Living by the Power of God's Holy Spirit revealed in God's Word (1 Corinthians 2)
Jesus Christ prays, "Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me...
...May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." [John 17:17-23]
